Southampton will participate in the National Beacon Initiative, orchestrated by Bruno Peek CVO OBE OPR. This will include an 80th-anniversary D-Day international beacon, set to be lit in the evening at the British Normandy Memorial, overlooking Gold Beach.

Additional beacons will also be positioned in Utah, Omaha, Juno, and Sword, all within Normandy, France.

The Southampton beacon will be lit in Guildhall Square by the Lord Mayor of Southampton, marking the culmination of the military parade and the city's commemoration of the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
