FreeAn award-winning park, Mayfield provides 17 hectares of diverse landscape and historical features in the south east of Southampton. The park includes formal gardens, sports grounds and large recreational areas, woodland walks, a play area and grade II listed buildings.
It was opened to the public in 1938 and formerly made up the grounds of Mayfield House, built in 1954 for Robert Wright and demolished in 1956. Situated near the playing fields is the Obelisk, a local landmark commemorating Charles Fox the radical politician. Shoreburs Greenway follows the early nineteenth century carriageway, which linked Weston Grove House to Portsmouth Road.
