East Park (Andrews Park)

Parks & Walks

East (Andrews) Park is one of the five areas that makes up Southampton’s Central Parks. Its Victorian heritage can be seen within the fauna of rose beds, herbaceous plants, spring and summer bulbs, bedding, ferns, grasses and bamboos.

The Rockery, built in the 1930s, is planted with a wide range Alpines, and features two ponds; one to encourage local wildlife such as newts, frogs and damsel flies and the other displaying ornamental fish.

In 2015, the original crazy paving path just to the north of the Titanic Engineers Memorial, was lifted and re-laid. Some of the slabs were replaced with mosaic designs created by a collaboration between the Nicholstown Residents Association and local artist Will Rosie. The path illustrates the wide range of international heritages of Southampton’s residents, which give the city its rich culture and identity.

A circular mosaic created in 2000 marks the historic site of an old fountain. It is now a peaceful place to sit and relax. The pergola is always lovely to walk through, but comes to life in May when the wisteria is in full bloom.
